Turn a teaching question into a useful discussion

When reflecting with colleagues, begin with a specific classroom moment. Instead of “My students do not speak,” describe the task, the language available to learners and what they did. Keep learner identities private. Ask colleagues to suggest one change you can test, then compare the result after the next lesson.

Three prompts for a teacher meeting

• Which instruction in your last lesson needed repeating? How could a demonstration replace part of the explanation?
• Who spoke most during pair work? What role or task change could give quieter learners a clearer purpose?
• What evidence showed learning at the end? How would you change the next lesson in response?

These prompts can be used in a staff meeting or a personal teaching journal. They do not submit anything to this website. See the FAQ for other historical features that are no longer available.
