About ELT World

ELT World is a collection of English language teaching ideas, classroom resources and reflections on teaching English as a foreign language. The earlier site described its purpose simply: “TEFL is a tough old world. Join me in discussing its many ups and downs.”

What you can read here

The site brings together historical articles from the original collection and practical teaching resources prepared for this edition. Start with the lesson plans for a classroom sequence, use the worksheets for printable activities, or browse the article archive for earlier discussions.

How to use the archive

Articles with a 2011 date are historical material. Their original opinions and attributed authorship are retained where available. Mentions of qualifications, employers, websites and services describe the period in which the articles were written; they are not current endorsements. Check the relevant provider directly before making decisions.

Editorial approach

New activities give teachers a clear aim, a workable sequence and a way to check learning. Adapt the language and timing to your learners. Historical comments, advertisements and unavailable downloads are not presented as working services.
