Warmer: Elicit names of famous people onto the W/b
Make sure you have politicians…sports personalities…film stars…scientists…authors etc.
You choose a person but don’t tell the Ss who you are
Ss must ask you 15 Yes / No questions to try and guess
They are not allowed to make a guess before they ask 15 questions
Ss then play this in pairs

Put a picture of Princess Diana on w/b
Get Ss to shout out info about her
Show prompt cards with info about her life to drill past simple sentences;

Live / Kensington Palace
Have / 2 children
Meet / Charles 1981
Visited / many countries
Get / married 1984

Concept check why we use past simple…she’s dead – activities in the past and finished

Put up picture of Charles
Ask is he dead or alive?
Get Ss to shout out info
Show prompt cards about Charles

Meet / many presidents
Dance / a lot of princesses
Buy / expensive gifts
Stay / palaces
Visit / many countries
Play / polo
Come / this school ( for negative)
Marry / another woman ( for negative)
Meet / Demirel 1997

Ss will try and shout past simple sentences
Don’t accept these
Ask Ss is he alive…yes
Do you know when he met these presidents……no
Is the date important………..no
Is the activity / experience important…..yes
If necessary check what experience is in Turkish (tecrübe)

Drill present perfect sentences positive + negative
“He’s met many presidents”
“He hasn’t come to this school”
Chorally and individually
Use fingers to show “he has” becomes “he’s”
Also highlight V#3
Concept check after each card

Leave the prompt card with the date for last
Use this to show difference with past simple
“He met Demirel in 1997” – we know the time and it is important

Elicit a couple of sentences to the W/B
Highlight form; have + Vb3
Concept check

Put a big tick and cross on the W/B
Show new prompt cards to elicit Q forms

Meet / Tarkan ?
Travel / Adana ?
Ride / camel ?
Eat / frogs legs ?

Drill Q form and stick prompt under tick or cross to elicit and drill short answer
“Has he met Tarkan ? ” “No, he hasn’t.”
“Has he ridden a camel ?” “Yes, he has.”

Highlight form on W/b

For practice give Ss info about a Turkish personality - Tarkan
Have / many hit records
Visit / many European countries
Be / a soldier
Have / many girlfriends
Get / married

Ss in pairs write sentences

For speaking practice:
Put Ss in grps and give each grp a pile of small pictures of famous people
(Hello magazine !)
A S takes a picture – doesn’t show the others – makes sentences about the person using present perfect when possible
Others listen and guess
This can be done as a run up and pick up a card competitive activity
