It wouldn't surprise me if it was genuine. I've known a couple of nannies who were doubled up as 'teachers' In fact isn't there a recruitment outfit in Kadikoy called ABC which recruits teachers/nannies.

I've had no dealings with Dilko whatsoever, but I've had friends who worked for them. Didn't they use to be a pretty decent school in the past? But I heard a story about a teacher, an ex-British Army guy, whom they hadn't paid his salary around Christmas time like two years ago. In fact, they had been late paying all the salaries for November or something, and this guy went into the office of the Manager with a gun in his hand at the Kadikoy Branch of Dilko. I don't remember what they told me about what happened in the office, but after that I believe they paid every teacher's salary immediately the same day. This story was told me while I was drinking with some teachers from Dilko at Son Gemi in Kadikoy, and I really don 't know about the specifics.

I think the ownership of Dilko chain of language schools has changed recently, hasn't it? In Turkey, if a business makes money, other people who have some money and power but have absolutely no knowledge of that business tend to start doing the same thing or they take over the money making business. That's capitalism for you, isn't it? Now it's possible to hire native English speaking teachers for very low wages, thanks to the recession and unemployment in the US, all you need is a crappy building and a few connections in the Ak Party government to start a language school. What I am annoyed about is that the chain schools like Dilko are trend setters, and if they can get away with doing their business with unqualified travellers whom they pay a pittance, there won't be any decent language schools left in Turkey. Nowadays, highschools, especially the ones which are controlled by Hoca Efendi (Fetullah Gulen) are doing the same thing.
