I noted in a posting here a couple of years ago - while several of my colleagues from New Zealand language schools were essentially detained in Bangkok because of the unrest there - how little coverage of this issue there is on TEFL forums. This particular forum section on Thailand seems to be entirely moribund, while the eslcafe equivalent is not much better, with a grand total of 13 postings over the last month - and no mention at all of the UK travel advice warning against all but essential travel to the whole of Thailand or the slightly more restrained US travel alert.
Just today one 'newbie' has posted a message over there blithely commenting that she has decided to move to Thailand and wondering which course to do. No mention at all of the unrest or travel advice, at all. I mean, if she's aware and chooses to ignore it, all well and good - but I think that anyone ignoring pretty plain warnings not to travel to a country ought to ask themselves if they're prepared to forgo any consular assistance, since they've essentially rejected these people's advice not to go there in the first place. _________________ podcast site talk IATEFL NZ ESP |

Thank you for the links. Please think carefully if you're planning on making the move in the near future. _________________ ELT World - Twitter |
