couldn't read the guardian story from where i am in china, but i've read the story eslewhere. apparently, google's moved to hong kong which may make it really interesting for the mailand authorities now. from other mainland news, some local businesses sued google recently. looks like the war is on.

cheers and beers to peace everywhere

then, chinese baidu'll take a larger share of the local market. they've already got over 70 percent according to the chinese stats.

from the local media and today's news, i do not see china backing of a bit. there's a lot of bad rap against google locally; lawsuits, breaking of contracts with mainlanders, a bit of the old rumpy pumpy and so on and on. in today's local news a host reported that china's got its rights to censor any internet material it considers for inappropriate.

my personal observation is that the censorship the locals are fessing up to now is not exactly the same as google has claimed previously or as i've seen around, but to fight the draggon i'd have to have more artillery, wouldn't i?

cheers and beers to truce

yes, neither have i..and the ones that've had some troubles do not have them anymore. the system reads well in mainland or hk "languages" and is well accepted around. one thing, however, i cannot do is search for my yahoo local weather forcast anymore. i'm asked for a kinda code that i've never been asked for before april. i loved my yahoo weather for china. i do not trust the local weather people.

cheers and beers

thanx for the link. i've tried a few times and've waited for a while but only the home page is accessible to me. once i click on china, white page for ever shows. i am beginning to suspect my internet services and computer. my email's really hard to sign on and clicking on the boxes of my email not only takes more time than before but also at times takes me to another site (chinese). a message when i am signing in shows that i need to update my browser or whatever..i am not good at computers at all. i've been using a yahoo email address for ages and this has never happened to me...and at any computer anywhere. ohh, i often can't send messages as of last weekend. whazup with yahoo or internet Confused

cheers and beers to the views and experiences of others on
